North Padre Island, Texas

There weren't as many seabirds hanging around as I'm used to seeing at the beach. Fortunately, these pelicans wandered by just as I was walking along at North Padre Island, Texas. - photo by Joe Alexander

This one stretch of beach on the south side of Corpus Christi is overlooked just enough that there were only a handful of people hanging out on a sunny October afternoon – even with bright sunshine and a temperature around 80.

Taking South Padre Island Drive past the turn to Port Aransas, you hang a left on Whitecap Boulevard and another left on Windward Drive. There’s just enough hotels and bar and grills to take care of you before you walk to the sand around Beach Markers 220, 221 and 222.
