San Antonio band Bombasta played at Main Plaza in front of historic San Fernando Cathedral on Saturday.

Bombasta, which dubs itself a “barrio-big-band”, combines a horn section and cumbia rhythms with a traditional Texas band lineup.

The event was put on by the Main Plaza Conservancy.

The San Antonio band, which had performed at Fitzgerald’s in the past, was back playing live after some time off.

Joe Jama, a legendary member of San Antonio’s music scene, died on Sunday at age 74.
I first saw him perform as the front man of Joe Jama and 100 Proof. He continued to perform occasionally into his 60s.
